This is my new favorite place to get Thai food. They have so many vegetarian and vegan options. They even have vegan desserts, which I didn't find out until after I looked on their website the day after I ate there. Not that I didn't want dessert while I was there, I did, I just assumed they wouldn't have anything vegan. I was wrong. Lesson learned: always ask about the desserts.
So back to the delicious food we had. My husband and I and our friend shared an order of fried spring rolls--they weren't called "fried spring rolls," they had a more exotic name that I don't remember. The spring rolls were really good, kinda small, and came with some delicious dipping sauce. I don't know what the ingredients of the sauce were, but it was perfect.
I had an order of tofu Pad Thai. If you've never had Pad Thai, what's wrong with you? Just kidding. You should try it sometime, because it's one of my favorite Thai dishes. It consists of flat rice noodles with some sort of reddish, slightly spicy sauce, with cabbage (raw) and bean sprouts on the side, all of this topped with peanuts. The tofu was fried just right. I wasn't able to clean my plate at the restaurant, but I finished my leftovers when we got home.
My husband had a curry dish with tofu, potatoes, and rice on the side. I had a bite of it, and it was really tasty. The curry was like a soup--maybe this is the traditional way they serve it in Thailand? It was spicy enough to clear your sinuses but not spicy enough to make you stop eating it.
Our friend also had a curry dish, but he had meat in his, so I don't want to talk about it.
Overall, the food was excellent, albeit more expensive than restaurants we normally go to. However, the quality of the food and the atmosphere make the price worthwhile.
Satay Restaurant is located on the northeast corner of Mopac and Anderson Lane.
